Virginia Tech Club Field Hockey

About Us

Virginia Tech Club Field Hockey, otherwise known as VTFH, is a club team comprised of fun, dedicated athletes who compete against varsity and other club programs. Club field hockey is a co-ed sport and VTFH welcome anyone who enjoys to play and is looking for fun and competitive recreation.

Tryouts are held on the second week of classes in the Fall semester on Virginia Tech's Marching Virginian's band field and typically last 3-4 days. Each day consists of a run to assess each player's physical fitness, followed by drills and a scrimmage to assess each player's level of play. There are no time requirements for the runs, however we do expect each player to give 100% effort through out all of tryouts.

During the fall, we have around four practices a week and travel to other collegiate schools on most weekends in order to qualify for the National Hockey League Tournament that is later in the season. Our spring season is more laid back as we only have two practices a week and have 2-3 tournaments throughout the season.

Equipment needed for a field player includes shin guards, a mouth guard, and a stick. It is expected that each player brings their own equipment, however occasionally we will have extra sticks that can be borrowed if we are given prior notice. Gaolies are highly reccomended to supply their own equipment, but there is a partial, extra set of equipment that can be used if needed.

We are waiting for a decision from Virginia Tech's Club Sports Office as well as the Recreational Sports Office before giving further updates on the season. Pending approval, we will post an update and provide our plan to keep our players safe and healthy throughout the season.
